Duke University Medical Center offers excellent training in neurosurgery with two to three positions per year. The residency at Duke is a six year program (one year of surgery internship plus five years of neurosurgery) which includes one year of basic science research.

The Duke Neurosurgery program has a long and successful tradition in the training of neurosurgeons throughout the history of American neurosurgery, including those just starting to investigate the process during medical school. Visiting medical students are always welcome and encouraged to rotate through the Duke University Neurosurgery program as a subintern.

The Division of Neurosurgery participates in four two-year fellowship programs in conjunction with the Department of Radiology, the Division of Neurology in the Department of Medicine, and the Division of Orthopaedic Surgery.
